De'Aaron Fox is done for the year.
The Athletic's Shams Charania reported Thursday that Fox will undergo season-ending surgery on Tuesday for "tendon damage in his left pinkie."
According to Charania, Fox suffered the tendon damage during training camp in October and played through it all year. The Spurs are hoping Fox undergoing the surgery now will speed up his healing process to have a full offseason getting acclimated with his new teammates in San Antonio.
The Spurs acquired Fox and Jordan McLaughlin from the Sacramento Kings in a three-team trade with the Chicago Bulls back on Feb. 2. In 17 games with the Spurs since the trade, Fox averaged 19.7 points, 6.8 assists and 4.3 rebounds per contest while shooting 44.6% from the floor and 27.4% from three-point range.
San Antonio entered Thursday's slate of games with a 27–37 record, good for 12th place in the Western Conference. The Spurs are 4 1/2 games behind the Dallas Mavericks for the final play-in tournament spot with 18 contests to play.
