A water park on the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire border has been forced to close after "strange algae" was discovered. The park will reopen once the results of a full lab report into the discovery have returned.
The algae was discovered in the water at Spring Lakes in Long Eaton. The £500,000 waterpark was opened in Long Eaton in 2019 by Mansfield couple Katie and Richard Hill, who own the 133-acre former Trent Meadow site.
The team says: "Unfortunately we will remain closed today as no matter how hard we tried overnight it proved impossible to get the correct level of water testing completed due to the bank holiday. We will continue to work as hard as possible to get these completed as soon as possible in order to safely reopen."

The team added: "During our pre site inspection carried out on 27/08/2022 a small patch of strange algae was spotted on part of our site and as such this was tested and the results inconclusive. Following consultation with our water treatment company we no longer suspect it to be blue green algae however we feel it only prudent to remain closed and await a full lab report to be certain.
"We do not take this decision lightly as we know how many people rely on the site for many different reasons. If you have a booking that has been or will be affected our team will be in contact during the next couple of days and issue a refund.
"Our team are working hard to resolve this issue but we will not compromise safety. Please bear with us as demand on emails, messages and phone lines is high. There is no need to contact us as we will contact you.
"The Waters Edge Cafe is open as normal as is our fun city. The weather at the the lake is sunny and will be a perfect day to relax at the lake. Thank you all for the kind messages and support we look forward to seeing you all back at the lake soon."
