Spotify's AI-powered playlist generator is real, and a lucky few may already have access.
The new feature was revealed in a TikTok video by a user who wrote, “I just randomly discovered Spotify’s ChatGPT?”.
Spotify has since confirmed to TechCrunch that it is, in fact, testing out the update.
If you’re wondering how you can try it out for yourself, here’s what we know about the exciting new tool.
How to get Spotify AI playlists
Those chosen to try it out can find the new feature by following these steps:
• Head to your library and tap the plus icon at the top right to create a new playlist.
• You should see a new third option entitled “AI playlist" below the options to create a regular or blend playlist.
• Tap it, and you should be able to interact with a chatbot, which you can instruct to create a playlist based on the directions you type in. Or, if you’re struggling for inspiration, you can tap one of the bot’s suggested playlist ideas.
• Once you’ve made your choice, it should take a few seconds for the bot to generate your playlist.

At least that’s what it looks like in the TikTok clip, anyway. Ultimately, the end product may come with some tweaks to design and functionality.
We already knew that Spotify was working on AI playlists after references to the feature were spotted in the music app’s code back in October.
What did Spotify say?
For now, Spotify isn’t making a big deal of the new bot. It’s worth noting that not every software update makes it past the testing stage.
But, seeing as Spotify already has launched an AI DJ and AI-translated podcasts, we’d be surprised if the playlists feature didn’t see the light of day.
“We routinely conduct a number of tests. Some of those tests end up paving the path for our broader experience and others serve only as an important learning,” a Spotify spokesperson said. “We don’t have anything further to share at this time.”
