What has happened?

Spotify tweeted that they had received reports of problems shortly after 6pm.

According to downdetector.co.uk, there are about 20,000 reports of problems with the music streaming service.

Among the errors encountered by users was a message saying that their username and password were incorrect.

Another one displayed when Spotify users tried to launch songs on the company’s site said: “We’re all mixed up. Refresh this page or try again later. It may take some time to get things up again.”

When will the service be back up and running?

Spotify has yet to issue a statement explaining why the system has crashed for so many users.

From 7.40pm, many users are now reporting that they are able to get back into the Spotify app via the usual login methods and use all of the app's features.
