Sportscene to follow MOTD format amid Gary Lineker BBC row

BBC has confirmed that Sportscene will follow an "amended format" to reflect Match of the Day's coverage.

It all stems from a row between the national public service broadcaster and MOTD host Gary Lineker.

The former England striker was suspended by the Beeb over a tweet conveying a political opinion.

As a result, several of Lineker's fellow pundits, commentators, and presenters have refused to appear on MOTD for tonight's show.

In turn, BBC Scotland has revealed that they will follow suit with a "limited" showing of Sportscene this evening.

Their statement reads: "The BBC will only be able to bring limited sports programming this weekend and our schedules will be updated to reflect that.

"Sportscene will run this evening on BBC One Scotland and BBC Scotland, with an amended format similar to current plans for Match of the Day.

"Some of the Sportsound slots on Radio Scotland was replaced by pre-recorded material.

"We are sorry for these changes which we recognise will be disappointing for BBC sport fans.

"We are working hard to resolve the situation and hope to do so soon."

BBC's radio coverage of Hearts vs Celtic was altered earlier today with the reaction being cut to instead play pre-recorded podcast material.
