Champions League takes centre stage once again as Tottenham Hotspur travel to Portugal to face a Sporting side looking to add to their winning start too. Spurs fought well against a tough Marseille side at home last week while the Primera Liga runners-up saw off Europa League champions Eintracht Frankfurt.
Tottenham are the favourites going into the match at 11/10 with Betfred while Sporting are 13/5 and a draw is 13/5 too. Spurs last faced Portuguese opponents in the Europa Conference League qualifying phases back in August 2021 and have not lost to a side from Portugal in 60 years.
Antonio Conte's side have started the season strongly going unbeaten in their first six Premier League matches and winning their first match in Europe too. Notable performances against Chelsea and Fulham have showed how the mental approach in the side has changed drastically under Conte's supervision - much to the delight of the fans.
Meanwhile, Sporting will be pleased with their outing last week despite a slippery start to life in their own domestic league. Having drawn to Braga and lost at Porto last month, Ruben Amorim's side started strongly with a 3-0 win at home to the Europa League champions - who many have tipped to be a banana-skin in Europe's top club competition. They still have plenty to do to steady the ship and are already eight points behind arch-rivals Benfica which could add pressure to their outing against Spurs.

Son Heung-min has not exactly had the best of starts to the new season which has led to comments from Conte which are understandable. Previously described as "untouchable" by the Italian manager, it seems the former Chelsea boss has changed his mind over that. No doubt, a motivational tactic to get the South Korean finisher to, well, finish. He is 2/1 to score anytime which is a ridiculously high price if you ask me.
H2H
This will be the first meeting between the two sides when they meet at the Jose Alvalade Stadium. This will be the sixth Portuguese club to meet Tottenham Hotspur having faced Braga, Benfica, Porto, Vitoria Setubal and Pacos Ferreira in the past. In total, Spurs have played 14 matches against Portuguese opposition winning eight, drawing twice and losing four.
For Sporting, this will be the 11th English they will meet in their history having faced the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United to Bolton and Sunderland. They have a win percentage of 31% having picked up nine wins in 29 outings and are winless in all six Champions League matches against English sides.
