Well, it looks like we’re in for another Splendour-less year, people. The beloved Byron Bay music festival has announced it’s taking another year off, and Splendour In The Grass 2025 is officially a no-go .
Splendour organisers told their loyal fans the news in a statement posted on Instagram: “Hey gang, sorry it’s been so quiet, but we had a little holiday…finally.
“The rest of the festival team have still been busy cooking up some awesome new things for music lovers in Australia, but Splendour needs a little more time to recharge and we won’t be back this year.”
They’re calling it a “breather” so they can come back “even bigger and better when the time is right”.
This marks the second year in a row that Splendour has been axed. Last year’s cancellation happened less than a week after tickets went on sale. The 2024 lineup was set to feature some huge names including Kylie Minogue, G Flip, and Tash Sultana, but it all came crashing down due to what organisers called “unexpected events”.
Live Nation, the big dogs behind Splendour, told Rolling Stone that they’re backing the festival’s decision to sit this one out: “The festivals team has our full support to bring Splendour in the Grass back when they feel it’s right,” they said.
“In the meantime, we’re working on exciting new projects to support artists and the industry, while meeting the demands of music fans and look forward to sharing more in the coming months.”
The Instagram comments section was a mixed bag, with some fans losing hope.
“Stop lying @splendourinthegrass you’re never coming back,” one pessimistic festival-goer wrote.
One user is keeping the faith alive: “Keep grinding away behind the scenes, 2026 will be the year Aussie music festivals make the comeback.”
“Good things come to those who wait,” said another user.
So, will Splendour ever return? Who knows! But I, for one, will be keeping my fingers crossed and my gumboots at the ready.
