Thousands of music fans at Splendour will be delighted to hear that issues with the card payments and bar queues have been fixed ahead of the second day on Sunday, July 24. Fans complained about the 'sluggish' service speeds which saw some visitors waiting up to an hour for a drink.
The festival, which has returned after two years off, trialled a new system for the first time which saw long queues form at each of the five bars on site. There are other bars including a carnival-themed cocktail bar, a bar in the VIP and a Kopperberg cider bar.
There were on average 20,000 music fans attending the Saturday with similar numbers expected on Sunday, not to mention crew, performers, staff and the many teams responsible for putting on the show.
Managing Director of organisers DHP, George Akins, admits things are a bit 'rusty' after two years off but is confident the issue was fixed ahead of today. He says there is no point pretending that it didn't happen but stressed that it has been fixed so that fans can get a drink quicker.
"This is part of the rustiness and we put a new till system in this time round. We normally have a different system and it was too slow to cope. We dealt with it last night so there shouldn't be any issues today. We will endeavour to never have that happen again," he said.
"It was a difficult thing but we don't want to hide away from it but it has been dealt with."
There have been a number of supply issues across the performance industry as live music and events return to venues after Covid restrictions caused a hiatus for two years. Many suppliers, companies and brands have left the industry or taken other roles as work became scarce.
George said this is happening across the industry and that Splendour has found a few areas where it has been difficult. However, it's been all right on the night as they have found ways to make it work. As a result, there have been plenty of facilities available to festival attendees including plenty of toilet and food options.
"Generally there have been difficulties with all supplies across the industry as a whole. Just getting the kit you need with the experienced staff you need has been a struggle but that's been caused by the pandemic as people have been leaving the industry and the amount of events that are on this year.
