Splendour Festival 2023 major acts announced as event returns for 2 days

Splendour Festival bosses have announced this year's event at Wollaton Park will again take place two days this summer - with major artists announced. Madness and Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds have been confirmed as the first artists to perform at this year's event on Saturday, July 22 and Sunday, July 23.

The summer music festival will also see performances from The Kooks, Rudimental, Sugababes, Sam Ryder, Confidence Man and Altered Images across the park.

Further acts are expected to be announced over the coming weeks with tickets on sale from Friday, February 3 at 10 am. The organisers have also announced there will be five stages this year spread across the historic park.

This year sees a change to ticket prices due to the cost of living crisis with the introduction of a payment plan ticket option. It offers ticket buyers a flexible option to split the cost of the tickets into monthly instalments between now and the event in July.

There will also be a new youth ticket covering children from the age of eleven to seventeen, with children under ten allowed to enter for free with an adult. Festival fans will be able to get their hands on the limited run of early bird tickets, which offers a weekend pass priced at £92 for adults and City residents' weekend tickets are priced at £82.80.

The festival, which is now in its 15th year, will celebrate with some of the biggest names in pop, punk and dance music across its legendary stages. Last year saw record numbers attend the festival with over 23,000 music fans packing into the park to hear tunes from Richard Ashcroft and Human League.

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds formed in 2011 and have had three number-one studio albums including The Way we Came, which was released in 2021. The band will perform on Sunday, July 23 following the release of the anticipated new album, 'Council Skies', which is due to be released earlier that month.

Festival favourites, Madness is one of the most prominent bands of the late 1970s and 1980s two-tone revival known for their 'nutty sound' which blends ska rhythms with catchy melodies and a sense of humour.

Madness has performed at Splendour previously and has been listed as one of the top performers over the years with many festival fans keen to see them return. They have spent a total of 214 weeks on the UK singles chart with 15 of their tracks reaching the top ten.

Anton Lockwood, Director of Live at DHP Family, which organises Splendour, says: “We’re absolutely over the moon to have secured two bona fide music legends for the Splendour weekend. Madness has been one of the most requested acts of the Splendour audience time and time again, and Noel and his band have been on our wish list for years.

“Following the success of last year’s debut two-day music festival, it was obvious that there was an appetite for a full weekend of Splendour. Once again, people can expect a fantastic mix of rising stars, Splendour debutantes and well-established heavy hitters. We have more up our sleeves and will be revealing the full line-up in the coming months. Get ready for a spectacular 15th birthday Splendour!”

Indie rock band, The Kooks will join the festival celebrating almost two decades since they formed in 2006. They have achieved quadruple platinum success in the UK with tracks such as ‘She Moves in Her Own Way’ and ‘Naive’.

Rudimental is one of the UK's most successful dance acts with multiple chart hits, two number-one albums and three number-one singles. They will also be joined by Sugababes as they make their Splendour Festival debut with the original lineup of Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanan and Siobhan Donaghy.

Splendour spans many different genres of music so for punk fans, Scottish band Altered Images will take to the stage over the weekend to play some of their greatest hits including: ‘Happy Birthday’, ‘I Could Be Happy’, and ‘Don't Talk to Me About Love’.

George Akins, MD, DHP Family, says: “Now in its 15th year, Splendour has become a firm fixture in the summer for the East Midlands, with thousands attending year after year for an epic weekend with friends and family. The introduction of a flexible payment plan makes it easier for ticket holders to spread the cost over several months, something we hope will help during the cost-of-living crisis. Everybody should have the opportunity to have a great time and enjoy live music.”

Cllr Pavlos Kotsonis, the Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Culture and Planning at Nottingham City Council, said: “It’s great that Splendour is returning to Nottingham this July for its 15th year, following the huge success of last year. We are proud that wollaton-park>Wollaton Park will once again host Nottinghamshire’s leading music festival for two days, giving local artists and musicians the chance to perform alongside internationally renowned acts. This year’s line-up looks set to be one of the best yet.”
