Spirited: How to watch Ryan Reynolds’ and Will Ferrell’s new Christmas film

With Christmas just weeks away, its time to get in the festive spirit with some seasonal movies, from old classics to brand-new editions.

A remake of the Charles Dickens classic, Spirited will bring the Christmas festive cheer early to Apple TV+.

Starring Ryan Reynolds, Will Ferrell, and Octavia Spencer, the all-singing, all-dancing festive film is one of this year’s must-watch Christmas flicks.

Here’s how to watch the new Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell Christmas movie.

How to watch Spirited?

Spirited premiered globally on Apple TV+ on November 18, 2022.

You’ll need an Apple TV+ subscription to watch the movie, which costs £6.99 a month.

What is the plot of Spirited?

Spirited is a modern remake of the classic Charles Dickens story about Ebenezer Scrooge, or Clint Briggs in this film, needing a lesson in the festive spirit of giving.

Set to be the new Christmas classic, the film's plot sees Present picking this year’s “perp” in dire need of a moral lesson deciding on cynical PR marketing strategist Clint.

The musical comedy film takes on a different turn as its depicted from the perspective of the ghosts themselves.

Another notable change is after a visit from Present, rather than the yuletide haunting, Clint chooses to turn the tables back on Present, causing him to re-examine his own life including his past, present and future.

Directed by Sean Anders and written and produced by Anders and John Morris, the film sees Reynolds showing off both his vocal and dancing abilities a far cry from his usual on-screen presence.

“It was super-exciting to take on something that was obscenely challenging and scary,” Reynolds told Yahoo Entertainment.

“And I don’t think I would’ve done this 10 or 15 years ago, or even five years ago, necessarily. I think I’m at a place in my life where I’m much more lenient with myself at not being great at something right away.

“It’s very hard to get even adequate at something unless you’re willing to be terrible at it first.”

His newfound confidence in musicals was thanks in part to fellow actor and musical theatre star, Hugh Jackman who “gave me some really good advice”.

Reynolds explained to PEOPLE magazine that the actor had told him that he needed to make sure he was enjoying it. Adding that if he enjoys it, we’ll enjoy it.

“And I thought that that was actually quite sage. It was very wise,” he added.

Spirited is showing in select UK cinemas and on Apple TV+ from Friday, November 18, 2022
