Spirit Airlines Struggles Through Another Day of Disastrous Delays

There was a 50% chance your flight was delayed if you flew Spirit Airlines ((SAVE)) on Thursday, June 1.

The budget airline announced at 9:43 am Eastern Time that it was “experiencing a technical issue” and that its website, app, and airport kiosks were unavailable. The issue persisted until around noon eastern time.

The issues delayed half of Spirit’s flights, according to the Wall Street Journal. This included about 400 flights around the country by the afternoon. There were an additional 33 flights that were canceled.

When the issue was resolved, Spirit released a statement on social media saying it had “resolved a network issue” and said it was between “third party services.”

The company still advised guests to come earlier and expect longer lines, likely due to the ripple effect of the nationwide delays. It also suggested its customers direct their  questions to its Guest Service Agents at airports or contact Spirit Airlines Guest Care online.

It was odd timing for Spirit which, along with the rest of the airlines, had a smooth Memorial Day Weekend as less than 1% of flights were canceled.

The company is also continuing to search for its financial footing as it continues to incur losses, including a reported $103.9 million loss in Q1 2023.

Spirit stock is also down over 21% year-to-date.
