Moment huge great white shark tears chunks from boat as family scream on board

Spine-tingle footage captured a family’s terrifying close encounter with a Great White Shark.

The Australian family were trapped by the shark which circled around their boat for over an hour before it launched its attack on them.

David Tuckfield along with his wife Tanya and 14-year-old son, Shelby, were out fishing on their seven metre boat, off the coast of Mandurah, south of Perth on Good Friday when the wild beast attacked them.

After circling around their ship, trapping the terrified family, it repeatedly attacked their boat and tried to take chunks from their motor.

Speaking to Australia's 9News, Mr Tuckfield said the shark was between three and four metres long and attacked the boat several times, trying to take a number of bites from the motor.

He said: "We had a big visitor from the deep come up, nice size ... white pointer.

"He tried to take a chunk out of the motor, we were mesmerised. Such a big majestic creature.

"We don't appreciate them until you see them up close and it is their playground."

The shark first appeared as son Shelby was reeling in his catch and it tried to snatch the fish off the road.

Son Shelby said: “It was like two metres from the surface and all you could see was the teeth and this big mouth coming out.”

Whilst Mr Tuckfield said he was “mesmerised” his wife filmed the terrifying encounter, reminiscent of The Jaws films.

Tanya screamed as the shark reared out the water with its mouth open, and again as it tried to take a chunk out of their boat.

Mr Tuckfield said he often goes out fishing but has never seen a shark come that close to their boat, or even one that size.

But after it finally left them alone and they were able to return home, and they said their encounter with the shark was the highlight of their Easter weekend.
