Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Jake McCabe underwent cervical spine surgery, the team said in a statement Tuesday.
The surgery was successful, according to team physician Dr. Michael Terry. McCabe is expected to recover in 10 to 12 weeks. No further details were provided.
McCabe, who turns 29 next month, played in 75 games last season, tied a career high with four goals and set a career high with 18 assists. He had a career-worst minus-27 rating as the team shifted to a rebuild.
In other injury news, forward Jalen Luypen had surgery on his left rotator cuff and is expected to return in 14 to 18 weeks.
The Hawks signed Luypen to a three-year entry-level contract in early August that carries an $859,000 annual salary-cap hit. The 2021 seventh-round draft pick set career highs in goals (29), assists (35) and points (64) in 66 games for the WHL Edmonton Oil Kings last season.
The Hawks will host a prospect showcase Wednesday through Sunday at Fifth Third Arena before opening training camp Sept. 21.
