Spike trap 'that could kill a child' found hidden in puddle in England

Dog walkers and families are being warned after a deadly spiked trap was found hidden in a puddle in England. Around a dozen long nails had been welded onto a pipe discovered in a puddle by an unsuspecting dog walker.

The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, found the terrifying device while walking his dog on the site of the former Hartshead Power Station in Tameside, Greater Manchester, used by families and walkers. He told the Manchester Evening News he suspects the trap was intended for off-road bikers who also use the land.

But he fears there could be more of the horrifying objects hidden around the area and is concerned about people getting hurt, adding that the one he found 'could kill a small child'. Families, ramblers and horse riders have been warned to remain vigilant while using the land in case there are others buried beneath the ground.

After writing of his find on Facebook, the dog walker said he alerted Greater Manchester Police by calling 101 as well as the landowners. He said on Facebook: "Found this today on the old power station land in Carrbrook, hidden in a puddle that my dog ran though and knocked it out of.

"Could of ended a lot worse, but if someone's made the effort of making one, there's definitely more. Kids play on that land, people walk dogs and ride horses. If a horse was to step on that, it wold be thousands of pounds in vet bills.

"I know these have probably been made to stop the off road bikes/cars, but at the end of the day they could kill a small child."
