Spider-Man's Tom Holland says Hollywood is 'not for him' and fears he could 'lose himself'

British actor Tom Holland has opened up about his uneasy relationship with life in the spotlight as one of the biggest stars in Hollywood.

The 27-year-old actor was essentially plucked from obscurity when he landed the role of Spider-Man in the hugely lucrative Marvel Cinematic Universe film franchise.

He then went on to star in a string billion dollar blockbusters Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Spider-Man: No Way Home – as well as Spider-Man: Homecoming and a cameo in Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

But Tom says the power of Hollywood scares him and he fears he could ‘lose himself’ to the industry - but shared his own technique for keeping himself grounded.

Opening up on Jay Shetty's podcast, the actor said: "Look, I really am a massive fan of making movies but I really do not like Hollywood, it is not for me.

"The business really scares me. I understand that I'm a part of that business, and I enjoy my kind of interactions with it.

"But that said, I am always looking for ways to kind of remove myself from it, to kind of just live as normal a life as possible."

Tom went on to explain that he was happy to lay his concerns on the table in front of 35-year-old podcast host Jay, who is a life coach.

Tom said: "Today, doing this [podcast] is a very rare thing for me to do.

"I definitely think it has been an ongoing thought, which is don't lose yourself. I've seen so many people come before me and lose themselves, and I've had friends that I've grown up with that aren't friends of mine anymore, because they've lost themselves to this business."

Tom went on to explain that he keeps himself grounded by keeping close to his friends and family and allowing himself to indulge in low-impact sports.

He said: "I just am really, really keen to focus on what makes me happy, which is my family, it's my friends. It's my carpentry, my golf, the charity that my mom runs.

"Like, that is the stuff that makes me really happy, and that's the stuff that I should protect."

Fans flooded social media with words of support for Tom after his candid interview was shared online.

One fan tweeted our stating: "The more I watch Tom Holland grow up throughout his career and his movie roles, the more I respect him as an actor and wish him the most love and privacy going forward. He's the real deal!"

And another gushed: "This makes me respect him even more. That's real maturity right there."
