Ambitious Premiership clubs are aiming to secure £50m yearly revenue by 2029 in a bid to increase Scottish football's money pot.
It comes amid Sky locked in talks over a new £150m TV deal – worth £30m-per-season – with the current deal not expiring until 2025. The Daily Mail state the lofty earnings target comes amid an incoming report from financial experts Deloitte on the current state of Scottish football.
That independent review was commissioned by Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibernian and Dundee United amid an ongoing push to get the most out of our beautiful game. And it the recommendations will be put to the newly formed innovations and strategy task force which is made up of Celtic 's Michael Nicholson, Rangers ' Stewart Robertson, Hibs and Aberdeen owners Ron Gordon and Dave Cormack, plus Andrew McKinlay of Hearts.
Scottish football's 42 SPFL clubs shared a total of £28.5million between themselves last year but now the aim is to almost double that over the next seven years. And the financial target comes with league chiefs locked in talks with Sky over a fresh long-term deal with Scottish football up to the end of the 20028/29 season.
The current agreement with the broadcaster sees them pay £25m for 48 games but the proposed agreement we'll see Sky secure 60 fixtures at £30m. And Sky have an option to take up two more further bundles of 10 fixtures, understood to be worth £4m each.
Fixtures not picked up for live broadcast could then be sold on a pay-per-view basis by clubs for punters to watch within the UK and Ireland. However, games would have to be screened outside the current blackout window. Which currently prohibits matches being broadcast live in Scotland between 2.45pm and and 5.15pm on a Saturday. But the fixtures Sky can broadcast in each individual stadium will rise form four to five.
