An SPFL club has been forced to take a firm stance after a small section of its supporters chose to ignore prior warnings about anti-social behaviour and the use of pyrotechnics, leading to incidents at a Scottish League One match last Saturday.
Despite previous communications on these issues, several pyrotechnics were discharged both inside and outside the ground during the game, drawing the attention of authorities and raising concerns for safety.
Dumbarton FC, the club in question, also reported incidents of anti-social behaviour in the town centre before the match against Montrose, further tarnishing the club’s reputation.
A number of individuals involved in the disturbances were moved to the Community Suite, where they awaited the arrival of guardians and police.
During this time, some fans required medical attention due to respiratory issues caused by the pyrotechnics.

So, in an aim to combat the ongoing problem, Dumbarton chiefs have decided to ban the entry of Under-16s to further matches this season, unless they are accompanied by an adult.
A statement read: “The club over many years has engaged in regular conversations and meetings with this group but apparently they have confused this as permission to pursue and develop their group further. Unfortunately their behaviour has now become detrimental to the reputation of the club.
“As a result of the anti-social behaviour witnessed on Saturday, the club has made the decision that, for the remainder of the season, all under-16’s will not be permitted entry to the stadium unless they are accompanied by a relative/carer who is 18 or over and will be responsible for their behaviour whilst on the premises. This applies for both home and away supporters.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this may present to the majority of our supporters, but hopefully you will recognise why such a decision is required.
“The club will also be reviewing the situation and decide if this measure will continue next season or if a fairer system could be introduced for any under-16 season ticket holders.”
