The SFA and SPFL are reportedly in discussions over a potential restructuring of the youth football pyramid in Scotland.
Chiefs are considering introducing a new under-19s age group as they look to provide more of an opportunity to younger players, reports RecordSport.
Discussions between Club Academy Scotland, several top teams across the country and the two previously mentioned organisations are ongoing as plans are mapped out.
As it stands, there is no recognised division between under-18 and first-team level, with players either going out on loan, straight to senior squads or B teams.

In the newly suggested plans, however, the under-18 level would be 'disbanded', allowing players an extra year of development before they are expected to make any jumps.
The news comes after teenage duo Lennon Miller and James Wilson were handed senior Scotland call-ups yesterday.
The pair have impressed for Motherwell and Heart of Midlothian, respectively, this season and were given international recognition by Steve Clarke for their performances.
