The New Orleans Saints have one of the more interesting quarterback rooms in the entire league. With veteran investment Derek Carr in shaky standing after a disappointing 2023 season, the team made an investment in former South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. While a fifth round pick isn’t normally a threat to steal snaps away from an incumbent starter, Rattler has shown throughout camp and in the opening preseason game he has all the tools of a potential starter in the league.

Rattler looked cool, calm, and collected in leading the Saints to an opening preseason week win over the Arizona Cardinals in a fantastic game winning drive. While Rattler wasn’t perfect in his performance, he showed plenty of the skills you look for in a modern day signal caller. With a whip of an arm, strong mobility in and out of the pocket, and the gift to make plays outside of the pocker, Rattler looked like the real deal in limited action.
After his performance Rattler should find himself seeing plenty of more action in the final two preseason games and likely locking up to the backup role to Carr. If Rattler is able to maintain some of what we saw this last weekend, he could here his name chanted in the stands should the embattled Carr struggle once again this season.
