Spencer Matthews says he's 'healthiest he's ever been' after concerns over appearance

Spencer Matthews has responded to female followers who frequently express concern about his appearance, stating that their comments are unwelcome.

The 35-year-old, who currently training for a world record endurance run, shared his frustration over his social media feed becoming inundated with inquiries from women asking if he's alright.

Addressing the concern in a length Instagram post, he began: “Every single day on this platform, women write to me expressing concern for my appearance.

“They say that I’m too thin and that I look sick… One asked why I’m ‘punishing my body’ and most say ‘hope you’re ok??’

“This is a quick note to say that your concern is misplaced and the delivery of that concern is unhealthy. I am fit, well, and above all, really happy.”

The former Made In Chelsea revealed that he’s the “healthiest” he’s ever been, adding that he’s upcoming physical feat makes him “feel alive and full of purpose.”

He continued: “In fact, I’m the healthiest I have ever been – enjoying a disciplined routine and am driven with clear goals, training for a world record endurance run which will hopefully raise a substantial amount of money for people who need it.

“Training for this challenge is NOT punishment, it’s PROGRESS… Please don’t mistake me pushing myself physically as being unhealthy… It’s not.

“It’s exciting and in my case, makes me feel alive and full of purpose.

“Not once did I ever receive a single message of ‘concern’ when I was a huge problem drinker – overweight and drastically unhealthy. I wouldn’t have wanted it then and I certainly don’t want it now.

“It’s really simple – don’t comment on anyone’s appearance. If someone looks different there is probably a reason for that. Mine is that I found a healthy lifestyle.”

Since leaving the E4 reality show nine years ago, Matthews has been open about his relationship with alcohol – and admitted earlier this year that he “could have died” at the height of his drinking.

Earlier this year, the former reality TV star said he would consume up to 10 pints of beer a day while working as a trader in the city, and his drinking worsen after appearing on MIC.

In 2018, the father of three made the decision to abstain from alcohol after drinking a bottle of whiskey when his wife Vogue Williams was away.

He shared on his wife’s Taboo Talk podcast: “I had a bottle of whiskey. I was hammered drunk. I remember waking up the next day and I thought, ‘I don’t need this in my life.’”

Matthews, who now consumes alcohol in moderation, also acknowledged that he "could have lost" Williams if he hadn't made changes in his life.
