Speculation mounts over Jon Rahm's 'imminent' £450m switch to LIV Golf

Speculation is mounting that Jon Rahm is on the verge of a £450million switch to LIV Golf after his name was missing from the list of entrant for the PGA Tour’s American Express field.

Rahm is a regular at the event and the current defending champion, meaning it is particularly rare for him not to line up in La Quinta, California.

The Spaniard was one of the stars of Europe’s Ryder Cup team and has long been a target by LIV Golf amid the ongoing uncertainty in golf despite their reported truce with the PGA and DP World Tours.

The Telegraph report on multiple sources saying that the multi-million-pound deal for the Spaniard to make the jump across would be signed imminently.

Rumours have been growing over his future since the Ryder Cup, sparked by his decision to pull out of the new high-tech, indoor TGL venture set up by Ryder Cup teammate Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods.

His signing would be a monumental coup for LIV and the Saudi Public Investment Fund ahead of a meeting between PIF boss Yasir Rumayyan and PGA Tour chief executive Jay Monahan.

Confusion appears to exist among the players over Rahm’s next move.

Speaking last week, Jordan Spieth said: “I know there’s been some guys that have talked to him. I know he’s maybe weighing some decisions, maybe not, I really don’t know so I don’t want to insult him and say he’s weighing decisions if he already knows he’s not or he is.

“I could speak probably on behalf of 200-plus PGA Tour players in saying that we really hope that he’s continuing with us.”
