Speculation Arises Over Potential Replacement For Sen. JD Vance

Senate candidate JD Vance campaigns in Boardman

Following former President Trump's announcement of Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, as his running mate for the upcoming election, speculation arose regarding who might succeed Vance in the Senate.

Vance, who was elected to the Senate in 2022 with his term set until 2028, would need to be replaced if he assumes the role of vice president alongside Trump. In such a scenario, Gov. Mike DeWine, R-Ohio, would be responsible for appointing a replacement.

If Vance becomes VP, Gov. Mike DeWine would appoint his Senate replacement.

Senator Mike Lee, R-Utah, expressed interest in seeing Vivek Ramaswamy fill Vance's Senate seat. Ramaswamy, a resident of Ohio who previously ran for the Republican presidential nomination against Trump, has garnered support for this potential role.

In a statement relayed by a spokesperson, Ramaswamy praised Vance's capabilities, stating, 'I have rock-solid conviction that JD will be an outstanding VP for President Trump.' He acknowledged the loss of a strong advocate in the Senate if Vance were to vacate his seat, indicating his willingness to consider the position and consult with Trump on the best course of action for the country.
