Spectacular lights trail opens for Christmas at Dunham Massey

It's the Christmas event that people buy tickets for months in advance and it's now open for the festive season.

The spectacular lights trail launched at Dunham Massey on Thursday evening, returning for a sixth year.

A walk-through illuminated, musical trail, the event has become something of a family tradition, with tickets selling like hotcakes.

If you’ve been before, you’ll recognise some of the favourites, including the larger-than-life glittering deer and the towering walk-through Tunnel of Light twinkling with thousands of pea-lights.

There are dancing waterside reflections, trees drenched in jewel-like colour, a fire garden and much more, including the chance to glimpse Father Christmas along the way.

And there are some new additions this year too, including Gladioli Tunnel, by UK-based arts collective Jigantics, in which 'lit arches of multicoloured flowers bathe visitors in a myriad of different lights'.

The 90-minute trail, which takes the crew 19 days to put up and prepare at the site in Altrincham, Trafford, is designed for visitors of all ages to enjoy and sessions start from 4.30pm.

As well as the sparkly lights and giant baubles, there are lots of festive food treats for visitors to enjoy too, including hot chocolate, mulled wine and toasted marshmallows.

Vendors are also on site selling the likes of burgers, hot dogs, pizzas and Greek souvlaki and gyros.

The event is running from November 18 to January 2 and tickets, costing £22.50 for adults, £14.50 for children (under threes free), or from £50 for a family, can be booked online.
