You win some and you lose some as the NFL rumors keep spinning. One of the key players for Bubba Ventrone’s special teams unit is reportedly leaving the Cleveland Browns as cornerback Mike Ford reportedly agrees to a two-year deal with the Houston Texans.
He was one of a few players that Andrew Berry signed last year to fix the team’s special teams unit.Ford also had to play some on the defense when the injury bug hit the defensive backfield and was ok at times. Though he struggled mightily against the run, you didn’t want him to play significant snaps on your defense.
It will be interesting to see what the team does with special teams players after making it a priority last year and then letting one of the top guys walk this year. Berry is not the kind of general manager who overpays for any one player, but he clearly knows the importance of special teams and will likely find a replacement for Ford in free agency or late in April’s draft.
