Special needs books help families

A new collection of interactive books tells the stories of children with special needs with the aim of improving family relationships and increasing public understanding of each child's challenges.

Sponsored by the Thai Media Fund, Super Siblings Of Special Kids is a research project by lecturers at Srinakharinwirot University. Stories and pictures have been created by alumni of its bachelor of arts programme in children's literature.

Six electronic books focus on three special-needs groups -- attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), intellectual disability and autism -- and feature downloadable files, games and videos.

In each story, a protagonist gradually comes to terms with his or her sibling's challenge. In Tawan And Chan Chao, a younger sister feels ignored by her family members who are devoted to her elder sister with ADHD. After the younger's emotional outburst, all work together to mend fences. Similarly, Story Of Dao Nuer and Diary Of V explore how family members can help each other to better understand kids with special needs.

The book collection is available in electronic format only. Learn more at supersiblings.swu.ac.th.
