Darwin Nunez could become 'one of the best forwards in the world' according to one of his former teammates.
Uruguayan striker Nunez was in blistering form for Liverpool on Wednesday evening, as he helped the Reds secure a 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, that helped keep their Champions League qualification hopes alive for next season.
Nunez, who had a second-half goal chalked off against Wolves by VAR, has found the net 12 times in all competitions since making the move to Anfield from Benfica in the summer. And his ex-Eagles teammate Adel Taarabt was only too happy to reveal just what an impact the 23-year-year made during his time in Lisbon, in a private conversation with ex-Crystal Palace midfielder Darren Ambrose.

Appearing on Sky Sports News, Ambrose recalled his conversation with Taarabt about Nunez. Ambrose said: “We were speaking off-air about Nunez, I really like him. I think he shows a lot of character. He’s not firing on all cylinders, but he’s not done badly.
“The fact that Erling Haaland has come in and produced what he has produced, it’s making Nunez come in and seem like he’s flopped. But he hasn’t. I think he gets into the positions. As soon as he stops doing that, that’s when Jurgen Klopp will start questioning him. But he’s not.
“I was speaking to his former teammate Adel Taarabt at Benfica. He says, ‘when he come into the team, the first few training sessions, everyone said, as you speak in the dressing room, this player could be one of the best forwards in the world’. He was that good.
“He seems confident. He seems like he is willing to go again if he misses. I think he could be the difference for Liverpool in the coming seasons. I am no doubt he will come good soon.”
Nunez will be expected to line-up for Liverpool against Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday, with the Reds looking for a fourth victory from their last five Premier League matches. The Uruguayan has six league goals to his name so far this season.
