Four Spartans suited up this year in the NBA’s Summer League to show off their skills and earn a spot on a roster or earn minutes on the rosters they are already on.
The results this year for former Michigan State basketball players were very varied, and you can see them below.

F Joey Hauser
Stats: 5 games played, 5.8 points, 4 rebounds, 1.8 assists per game
Analysis: Joey Hauser didn’t get to start much (only one game) for the Jazz, but he played well, shooting above 40-percent from three and looking solid on the court. Already signing a two-way deal with the Jazz, Hauser will be given some opportunities with this club in the future.
F Gabe Brown
Stats: 5 games played, 8.2 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals per game
Analysis: Gabe Brown was given a starting role on the Suns summer league team, and played okay, doing the little things that teams like to see in summer league like rebounding and playing defense. His shot didn’t fall though, so we’ll see how that plays out for him.
F Marcus Bingham Jr.
Stats: 3 games played, 0 points, 2 rebounds, .3 assists, .3 blocks per game
Analysis: Marcus Bingham Jr. didn’t get nearly as big of an opportunity this year with the Mavericks as he did last year before his injury, as you can tell by the paltry stats. Bingham might still opt for one season in the G League, or he might follow other Spartans like Cassius Winston overseas.
G Max Christie
Stats: 3 games played (in Vegas), 19 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.67 assists per game
Analysis: Max Christie had a simple but difficult mission going into summer league, which was to get stronger and show the Lakers he was ready for a real role in their rotation. Christie did that, and more, earning a second team All-Summer League spot and being considered one of the biggest breakout players of the session.
