Spartans Headlines: Charles Brantley withdraws from transfer portal, will return to MSU

Michigan State will be welcoming back a key starter on the defensive side of the ball.

Cornerback Charles Brantley announced on Tuesday that he has withdrawn his name from the transfer portal and will return to Michigan State for the 2023 season. Brantley was one of three notable Spartans — the others being quarterback Payton Thorne and wide receiver Keon Coleman — who entered the transfer portal on Sunday.

Michigan State football got some good news on Tuesday when Brantley made it known that he will return for another season in East Lansing, Mich. Brantley has been up-and-down over the past two seasons but is an experienced starter in the secondary that Michigan State will gladly welcome back to the program.

Former MSU star WR Keon Coleman reportedly meets with Mel Tucker

Could star wide receiver Keon Coleman be considering a return to Michigan State after all?

Audrey Dahlgren, a reporter for WLNS – CBS, put out on Tuesday that Coleman was meeting with Spartans head coach Mel Tucker, which could mean there’s still a chance he won’t leave Michigan State via the transfer portal. If anything, it shows there is still communication between Coleman and the program, which can only increase the chances of him withdrawing his name from the portal.

Draymond Green, Warriors drop Game 1 vs. Lakers

Draymond Green and the Golden State are in an early hole in their second round matchup with the Los Angeles Lakers after losing Game 1 on Tuesday night, 117-112. Green finished with six points, four assists and seven rebounds in the loss to the Lakers.

Game 2 from the Chase Center will tip off at 9 p.m. ET on Tuesday night. The game will be televised on ESPN.

MSU basketball makes top 6 for 4-star SG Jonathan Powell

The Spartans are one of six schools still in the running for four-star shooting guard Jonathan Powell of Dayton, Ohio. The other five schools to make Powell’s top six were Ohio State, Xavier, Virginia Tech, Clemson and Indiana.

Powell ranks as the No. 18 shooting guard and No. 98 overall prospect in 247Sports’ composite rankings for the 2024 class.

MSU basketball offers in-state rising PG prospect

Darius Acuff Jr. of Detroit, Mich. has picked up a scholarship offer from Michigan State. The Spartans are the sixth school to extend Acuff Jr. an offer in the past two weeks, joining Michigan, Kentucky, Kansas, Nebraska and Pitt.

Acuff Jr. plays for Cass Tech High and is yet to be ranked on 247Sports.

MSU football looking to flip UGA commit

Michigan State football has extended a scholarship offer to four-star running back Jabree Wallace-Coleman — who is currently committed to two-time defending national champions Georgia.

Wallace-Coleman ranks as the No. 14 running back and No. 151 overall prospect in 247Sports’ composite rankings for the 2025 class. He also is listed as the No. 3 player from Pennsylvania.
