Sparta Prague boss makes exciting prediction about Manchester United's Matej Kovar's future

Sparta Prague head coach Brian Priske has described Manchester United goalkeeper Matej Kovar as the "future of Czech football" following Saturday's 2-1 win over Hradec Kralove.

The 22-year-old, who joined United back in 2018, joined the Czech heavyweights in early-September on a season-long loan deal, in a bid to secure more regular first-team football. Prior to his departure, he put pen to paper on a new deal at Old Trafford up until the summer of 2025, highlighting how well thought of he is in Manchester.

Kovar has spent time on loan at both Swindon Town and Burton Albion previously, spending the second half of last season with the Brewers. However, his short-term stint with the League One side saw him make just six appearances.

Less than a month into his loan spell at Prague, he is already halfway to matching that tally, starting three matches since joining the club. And after coming out on the winning side for the first time at the weekend, Priske lavished the United shot-stopper with praise, backing him for a bright future.

"I was glad when the opportunity arose to get [Kovar]," said Priske. "We have also created new competition among our goalkeepers. He shows exactly what we expected from him. He is a tall young goalkeeper and his performance today was very good.

"At the same time, I'm glad he finally got a win. He made a number of excellent saves and has a big part to play in the victory. Although he behaved differently than usual in several situations in the first half, he is the future of Czech football."
