Sparks: First look inside huge new department store set to open in Bristol city centre

A huge new department store is set to open in Bristol's centre. Sparks is going to be very different from other high street spaces, offering people an arts and sustainability hub in the heart of our city.

Based in the old Marks and Spencers building, on the Horsefair, it's billed as a 'department store with a difference – from food and fashion, to education and energy'.

Each area will offer a range of exciting things like beautiful preloved clothing, interactive installations and creative skills workshops that schools can use.

People can hire the space for rehearsals on the upper floors, while schools can rent areas for talks or events. Preloved and reworked clothing will be on sale, and there will also be an area for clothes swaps and pop-ups.

The unique venue will offer fashion fans a clothing repair cafe and vintage stalls will also be homed inside.

Unusually for city centre spaces, the venue will have a 'front garden' where an oasis of calm will be created for people to relax in. And for people hoping to stop for some food, all of the dishes will be made by people in and around Bristol.

A spokesperson said: "It will be a showcase of all the good and the great produce found right on our very doorstep.

"If you are a local, sustainable food producer, we want to hear from you! Get in touch to find out how you could be a part of Sparks!"
