Sparked by Draymond Green’s return, Warriors’ Steph Curry drops 47 points in birthday win

SAN FRANCISCO — Draymond Green’s awaited return brought the fans inside Chase Center to their feet, but Steph Curry’s performance brought the house down.

Curry’s season-high 47 points came on his 34th birthday and fueled a 126-112 win against the Washington Wizards on Monday night.

Curry has had plenty of success on his birthday, averaging 26.5 points and shooting 53% from 3 in six games on March 14. But Monday it was Green’s presence — and maybe a little birthday magic — that sent Curry into a comfortable rhythm.

Curry saw fewer double-teams as the game wore on and he hit seven 3-pointers, going 16-for-25 from the field.

Green checked in with five minutes remaining in the first quarter and tallied two quick assists on two Curry 3-pointers. With 2:30 left in the half, Green, Klay Thompson and Curry shared the court together for the first time since Thompson tore his ACL during the 2019 NBA Finals more than 1,000 days ago.

Green quickly found Thompson in transition with a backdoor pass that Thompson cashed in with a layup. Thompson finished with 20 points, including four 3-pointers.

After 11 minutes played at the half, Green had five assists, four rebounds and five points — including a 3-pointer. In his full 20 minutes, Green had seven rebounds, six assists, six points and a steal.
