Gabri Veiga has broken his silence over a potential transfer this summer amid recent interest from Newcastle United and numerous other European suitors. The Magpies have watched the Celta Vigo youngster, 21, with intrigue after his impressive La Liga displays.
Veiga is poised to make a move this summer after bidding a teary goodbye to Celta after his final home game last month. The Spaniard has now linked up with the under-21 side as he ponders his next move but was in no mood to divulge his potential destination when asked in a press conference.
“I’m not here to talk about my future, only my present. I want to be in the final [squad] of the Europeans” he said, referring to the upcoming U21 Euros in Romania and Georgia.

With Newcastle, Liverpool, Barcelona, Real Madrid and more all keen to land Veiga this summer, the young midfielder has recently changed his representative, with the experienced Pini Zahavi now his new agent. The Israeli has managed the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Christopher Nkunku, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Aleksander Mitrovic in recent years and will now play a big role in which European power lands the La Liga sensation.
Veiga added: “It’s been a bit of a mess. I left my [agent] and then I took some time off. I went with the one that I think is the best and I think I’ve matured a lot.
“I don’t think about my future, I want to live in the present and the National Team. What I want for my future is to be in the European Championship, because there is still the final list, and then to win it. I am here in the national team, in a very nice challenge.”
Newcastle are on the hunt for serious young talent as sporting director Dan Ashworth attempts to find gems who will one day break into Eddie Howe's first-team on Tyneside. The Magpies moved quickly to win the race for Garang Kuol last season and signed Yankuba Minteh earlier this week.
