Spanish police have successfully apprehended six individuals who were part of a gang specializing in burglarizing the homes of footballers in and around Madrid. According to a statement released by the National Police on Wednesday, the gang meticulously selected their targets by scouring through photographs and videos of the players' residences shared on social media by the players themselves, their families, and friends.
Over the course of the past two years, the group carried out a total of eight robberies in affluent residential neighborhoods of Madrid. One particularly notable incident occurred in May, during which the gang managed to steal approximately 500,000 euros worth of watches and jewelry.
Following the burglaries, the gang attempted to offload the stolen items on the black market. During the arrests, law enforcement agents were able to recover 10 watches, various pieces of jewelry, 3,300 euros in cash, and two air guns.
The identities of the footballers who were targeted by the gang have not been disclosed by the authorities.
