Former Sevilla manager Marcelino reportedly "turned down" a Nottingham Forest approach to succeed Steve Cooper at the City Ground.
Prior to signing a new deal until 2025, Cooper's position at the club had been under threat following a poor start to the Premier League campaign, which led owner Evangelos Marinakis to consider a managerial change. According to Marca journalist Pedro Morata, 57-year-old Marcelino was on the Reds' shortlist.
"As far as I have absolutely confirmed, Marcelino turned down the possibility of coaching Brighton and Nottingham Forest," he told Directo Gol.

"Jorge Mendes phoned Marcelino’s people for Wolverhampton. All three clubs were told no by Marcelino. I think Marcelino is waiting in case Luis Enrique does not continue as coach of Spain.
"He wants to be the Spain coach. Marcelino is certainly one of those who is sure to be on the shortlist of the Royal Spanish Federation."
Former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique has been in charge of the team since 2019, having guided them to the World Cup in Qatar, next month.
