British Airways has announced it will has said it will cancel around 650 flights in a bid to avoid continuing travel chaos during the peak summer holiday season.
Around 105,000 passengers will be affected with routes axed from Heathrow and Gatwick airports in the coming weeks. Services to destinations such as Palma and Malaga in Spain, Faro in Portugal and Greek capital Athens are expected to be among the locations hit, according to Hull Live.
A spokesperson for British Airways said the aviation industry was going through the most "challenging" period in its history, the Express reports.

The airline stated: "As the entire aviation industry continues to face the most challenging period in its history, regrettably it has become necessary to make some further reductions. We're in touch with customers to apologise and offer to rebook them or issue a full refund."
Passengers will be offered an alternative flight or a full refund according to the airline’s spokesperson. Travellers could also be entitled to cash compensation if their flight is cancelled with less than two weeks notice.
BA is also facing strike action as hundreds of Heathrow customer service agents plan to take industrial action in July. The workers are striking over an ongoing pay dispute regarding a 10 percent salary cut during the pandemic.
British Airways has offered the staff a one off bonus payment but the employees would like the money reinstated permanently.
Strike dates have yet to be announced but it is likely to hit the peak summer school holiday period. Workers are required to give at least two weeks notice of any strike action so dates are likely to be announced soon.
