Spain has announced it will drop its entry requirement for children over 12 from non-EU countries such as the UK to be fully vaccinated.
They will be required to show evidence of a recent negative coronavirus test.
The changes come into force on Monday, February 14.
Following the news that customers aged 12-17 can now travel to Spain without a vaccination certificate subject to a negative PCR test performed 72 hours prior before arrival, Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays said: “This is very welcome news for families who want nothing more than to holiday in their favourite Spanish destinations.
"We are pleased to see the Spanish Government taking positive action to welcome more arrivals from the UK and we know that this will lead to an increase in bookings. As the UK’s leading tour operator to the Canary Islands and Balearic Islands, with a huge programme also on sale to Mainland Spain, we are already seeing strong demand and this will boost that even further.
"The removal of the requirement for 12-17 year olds to be double-vaccinated tells families that travelling to Spain is returning to normal, and after two years of missing out we know how much everyone wants to experience that famous Spanish sunshine again. Our teams and colleagues are excited about welcoming millions of happy holidaymakers to their favourite Spanish destinations this year, and we look forward to more positive updates from the Spanish Government.”
Changes to travel rules
With a major loosening of travel restrictions for fully vaccinated customers arriving into the UK coming into force, Jet2 has reported continued demand for flights and holidays as travel starts to return to normal.
Fully vaccinated customers no longer have to self-isolate or take a Day Two lateral flow test after arriving in the UK, with Passenger Locator Forms also simplified.
In response to this, Jet2 has reported strong demand returning for all seasons, with February half-term, the Easter holidays and Summer 22 all performing very well.
Bookings for the upcoming February half-term period have taken off since travel rules were relaxed, with bookings over the last four weeks up by 30% when compared to the same period in 2020. This has been driven by strong demand for holidays to the Canary Islands, Mainland Spain and Portugal as well as ski flights to Geneva, Grenoble, Lyon, Chambery, Lyon, Innsbruck, Salzburg and Barcelona (Andorra).
In addition, there is strong demand for Summer 22 as customers make up for missing out on the previous two summers. Jet2.com and Jet2holidays have more capacity on sale for Summer 22 when compared to Summer 19, and with demand back to, and in some cases above, pre-pandemic levels, it is clear how much customers want to book some summer sun after missing out for so long.
Popular destinations in Mainland Spain, Canary Islands, Balearic Islands, Portugal and Italy are set for a busy summer, and there is also huge demand for Greece, Turkey and Cyprus this summer.
