Spain issues major update for holiday makers as Ibiza makes announcement

Spain has reinforced some restrictions in a bid to control the spread of Covid-19.

The Balearic Island have also capped how many people can be allowed indoors as they remain in Covid Alert level three.

However, at a press conference this week, it has been announced that the iconic nightlife scene is set to return to Ibiza, News Diario Ibiza reports.

According to Mixmag, a range of nightlife and tourism features have been planned for 2022 and events will begin two weeks earlier than planned.

This comes after dates were confirmed for a range of major festival in Ibiza, with the first being Sueños de Libertad, which kicks off on July 28 to August 2 2022.

The pandemic saw a massive decline of 93 percent in British holidaymakers jetting off to Ibiza.

José Luis Benítez, manager of the Ocio de Ibiza (Leisure of Ibiza) association, said: “The idea is that the opening will be at the end of April, two weeks ahead of what is normally done.”

He added that the nightlife season plans to “continue on until October … November if all goes well.”

He said: “All of the island’s major nightlife enterprises are actively working this winter to prepare for the season.

“Even so, we will proceed with caution and in collaboration with the authorities.”

If this goes ahead, it will be the longest time nightclubs will have been open on Ibiza since 2019.

This comes after Spain's Tourism Minister Reyes Maroto reassured people at the conference that 'Spain is a safe tourism destination'.

An exact date of these new measures and rules regarding Covid passports have yet to be confirmed.

Currently in Ibiza, beaches are capped at 50 percent attendance and many may have to book appointments to visit.

Masks must also be worn outside unless exercising alone.
