Spain extends Covid travel rules over Easter holidays as Irish tourists warned of entry requirements

Spain has extended its Covid entry requirements which are now due to remain in place until April 30.

It had been hoped that the travel rules would be lifted at the end of March, however it appears that they will now cover the Easter break.

Next week will be the last week of school for many children, ahead of a two-week break for the Easter holidays. Easter falls on Sunday, April 17 this year.

Families planning to make the most of the school break and jet off to sunny Spain are being reminded of the entry requirements.

The extension of Spain’s Covid rules will not affect the majority of Irish citizens, who can use a EU Digital Covid Cert for entry.

However anyone without a cert or with one that is expired will need to prove they are fully vaccinated against Covid, have tested negative or recently recovered from the virus.

Rules from the Spanish Government state that for fully vaccinated travellers, the last dose of their Covid jab must have been administered in the past 270 days - which is just under nine months.

They also also state that to be classed as fully vaccinated, 14 days must have been passed since the jab was received.

Unvaccinated travellers will need to provide a certificate proving they have had Covid in the past 180 days, which is six months, or have a valid negative Covid test.

Irish citizens planning to use an EU Digital Covid cert are being reminded of changes to its validity which came into effect in February.

The changes mean that anyone who has yet to receive a booster jab could see their cert expire over the coming months.

The new rules state that the cert is valid for nine months with the vaccine, or valid for six months with proof of recovery

Passengers can also obtain a cert with a negative PCR test taken 72 hours before arrival, or a negative antigen test taken within 24 hours prior to arrival.

Spain’s travel entry rules also require passengers to complete a Health Control Form before their departure and obtain a 'FAST CONTROL QR code' to present at boarding.
