Spain confirms further extension of Covid entry rules for UK arrivals until May 15

Spain has announced a further extension of existing Covid-19 travel rules for UK visitors with regulations in place until May 15. The country remains as one of the few European nations still imposing entry restrictions - even though most tourists are not impacted.

The decision was confirmed by the Ministry of the Interior, extending an order first imposed on July 2020. It is hoped that all remaining rules will be relaxed within the next few weeks to open up the popular holiday destination to non-EU/Schengen arrivals even if they aren’t vaccinated or recently recovered from Covid-19.

Under the existing regulations, arrivals from the UK can still enter mainland Spain, the Balearics and Canary Islands without restrictions as long as they have one of the following documents:

  • Proof of being fully vaccinated at least 14 days prior to arrival to Spain, with one of the vaccines approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) or the World Health Organisation (WHO)
  • If the initial vaccination treatment was completed more than nine months previously (270 days), they’ll need to show they’ve had a Covid-19 booster jab

  • Proof of a previous infection with Covid-19 on a PCR or rapid antigen test issued in the last six months. You can use a medical certificate or recovery record to prove your Covid-19 recovery status on entry

UK travellers who are able to show proof of full vaccination, or having recovered from Covid-19 within the last six months to travelling, or who are under the age of 12 will not have to fill out Spain's Travel Health Control Form. All unvaccinated travellers, will have to complete the form no more than 48 hours before arrival.

Children under the age of 12 can enter restriction-free. All UK visitors aged 12 to 17 can enter Spain with proof of a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of arrival in Spain. Antigen tests are not accepted. All teenagers who are fully-vaccinated can also enter without restrictions.

Croatia, Bulgaria, Greece, Lithuania, Malta and Switzerland have all removed final entry restrictions for UK visitors in the past few days.
