Spanish authorities have backtracked on plans to welcome back unvaccinated Brits for holidays in time for Easter.
The Spanish Tourist Office announced yesterday that the country would be reopening with immediate effect to unvaccinated UK travellers who could show proof of a negative Covid test.
However hours later the authority issued an apology, as the rules have not changed for unvaccinated Brits hoping to enjoy Spain holidays. The confusion is believed to have come after a bulletin was misinterpreted.
Pedro Medina, deputy director of the Spanish Tourist Office in the UK said: "We apologise unreservedly for the miscommunication earlier today which was due to a misunderstanding of the new entry requirements."

Under the current travel rules - which also apply for the Canaries and Balearics - anyone aged 12 or over can visit the country for tourism if they are either fully vaccinated against Covid, or can show proof of recent Covid recovery.
(It's worth noting that to be considered fully vaccinated, you will need to have completed your initial course within 270 days before arrival, or you need a booster jab.)
Unvaccinated tens aged 12-17 can visit, but only if they have proof of a negative PCR test within 72 hours prior to travel, and are travelling with vaccinated adults.
One change has come into effect this week though.
While previously all travellers needed to fill out a pre-travel form, this has been axed for children aged under 12, provided they have an EU Covid passport, or the NHS Covid travel pass.
All other travellers will need to fill out a pre-travel form, and obtain a QR code to be scanned at border control.
Brits planning getaways this summer do have an increasing number of options.
For a start, 14 destinations have axed Covid travel rules entirely including the likes of Iceland, Mexico and Madeira.
Meanwhile a number of holiday hotspots including France, Greece and Portugal have been easing their rules in recent months to welcome back UK holidaymakers.
Most still require you to have proof of vaccination or a negative Covid test - to give you a helping hand, we've rounded up the latest travel rules for major holiday destinations including the rules in place for the Easter holidays.
* An earlier article reported that Spain had relaxed its rules for unvaccinated Brits. This was based on an official Spanish tourist board announcement, which they later retracted and apologised for.
