The decision to include a banana in the spacecraft was explained as a nod to the fruit's long-standing use as a quick visual comparison tool. The SpaceX team felt it was fitting to bring this iconic yellow fruit on board the Starship.
In addition to the actual banana inside the spacecraft, a 3-foot-tall banana decal has been affixed to the exterior of the Starship rocket. This playful addition serves as a unique and lighthearted touch to the otherwise serious business of space exploration.
For perspective, the Starship and Super Heavy vehicle, when stacked together, reach an impressive height of nearly 400 feet (121 meters). The inclusion of the banana, both inside and outside the spacecraft, adds an element of fun and creativity to the mission.
