Spaceship-like £330m megayacht can fold down to fit under bridges

An incredible new spaceship-like mega yacht can fold down to squeeze under low bridges. The Trident is a 328ft trimaran featuring two masts that can pitch forward – meaning it can go where other tall-sail ships cannot.

The concept is the brainchild of California-based designer Steve Kozloff, who says his creation would cost up to £330m to build.

Steve said: “The masts can tilt 70 degrees forward to reduce the air draft from 238ft to 138.5ft, making it possible for The Trident to traverse below most bridges. The Trident now can have direct access to the Panama Canal, San Francisco, San Diego, and many more notable harbours.”

The so-called Solid Sail System can also be rotated 360 degrees. Designed for luxury, the vessel features six decks and 5,100sqft of living areas. Guests can arrive by utilising either of two helipads and enjoy a full-beam beach club with retractable decks.

An integrated telescoping crane system in the boom of each mast can load and off-load provisions, tenders, seaplanes, and more. There are two large swimming pools, as well as two spas in the main hull, forward and aft.

The piano bar and entertainment area on the upper deck includes floor-to-ceiling windows, providing views of the surrounding seascape. Six self-inflating lifeboats that can be deployed from underneath the main decks.

The interior space has multi-levels, curved walls, and a multitude of large windows providing a near panoramic view. There is a 682sqft owner’s suite located in the bow of the centre hull and two master suites located at the bow.

Passenger cabins can host 26 guests in full luxury, and there are quarter to accommodate 20 crew. The Trident can cruise at 14kts for 6,700 nautical miles with diesel power only. Range is greatly extended with careful management of a hybrid diesel-electric systems and sail power.

No date for construction has been announced.
