Space NK reveals new store plans for 2023

Space NK will invest in its high street business with more stores, the beauty retailer said as it revealed Christmas sales growth.

The London-headquartered firm, which sells make-up and skin creams, said total sales in November and December were 28 per cent higher than the same months in 2021, and 60 per cent above the same period in 2019 before the pandemic.

Sales growth was helped by the company having increased investment in its digital division, no more lockdown restrictions, doubling its warehouse capacity and opening a new concept store at Battersea Power station in October. The branch features traditional selling space, as well as a refilling station for products and skincare treatment rooms.

Space NK, owned by Manzanita Capital, was founded in 1991 with the first shop in Covent Garden. It today has 73 UK stores, of which 23 are in the capital.

The retailer next week opens a shop at Westfield London four times the size of its existing one at the White City centre, and chief executive Andy Lightfoot said there are plans for “at least” four more new openings in the UK in 2023.

He told the Evening Standard: “We believe physical retail provides an essential aspect of customer experience. In 2023 Space NK will continue to evolve our store experience. We believe this is what needs to be done to connect with new and existing customers.”
