Amethi: The Samajwadi Party on Saturday staged a protest outside the Amethi Collectorate, seeking an apology from Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his remarks on Dr B R Ambedkar.

The party leaders also demanded the resignation of the Home Minister, accusing him of insulting Ambedkar.

They also submitted a memorandum to the District Magistrate in the name of the President.

According to Dynamite News correspondent, SP workers also raised slogans againt Amit Shah and BJP holding Dr B R Ambedkar's pictures in their hands.
They say that Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar is not only the architect of the Constitution but is also like God for Dalits, backward and deprived classes. "The Home Minister's statement has not only insulted Babasaheb but has also hurt the sentiments of crores of people who believe in his ideals," the party leaders said.
"The Home Minister has not only insulted Babasaheb with his statement, but has also disrespected the Constitution and the values of the country," the memorandum read.

Earlier on Friday, Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav sought Union Home Minister Amit Shah's apology over his remarks on Dr B R Ambedkar during debate in Parliament on the Constitution.
'Govt hurts sentiments'
Talking to reporters outside Parliament, Akhilesh Yadav said, "The government has hurt the sentiments of the people through its behaviour and words over Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar."
Referring to Amit Shah's remark on Ambedkar, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said, "They should apologise and take back their words."
