Replacing the punt god
San Diego State has been a machine of late and last year they were in the Mountain West title game and finished the year with a 12-2 record. The Aztecs do lose some talent with quarterback transfers, running back Greg Bell, and the punt god in Matt Araiza.
Expectations are high as usual for this 2023 Aztecs team.
Bill Connelly’s first edition of SP+ recently came out with its first edition of where teams are ranked heading into the 2022 season. Now we will use those numbers to predict the record of each Mountain West school, and then determine who is expected to be the very early champion.
San Diego State’s SP+ starts out as 67th and their projected record as 7-5.
