Controversial firm promotes 'Donald Trump' inspired Highland cow adoption

A SOUVENIR company has been criticised after promoting its latest “gimmick” of adopting a Highland cow, which has been named after Donald Trump, with an “alarming” description.

Highland Titles, which sells “souvenir” plots of land near Glencoe and the novelty titles of the Lord or Lady of Glencoe, has been criticised on social media after it unveiled Donald the Highland cow.

The online site said it decided to name the calf Donald as it's a traditional Scottish name and that it celebrates the US President’s “Scottish roots”.

It added that Donald nearly died but “fought bravely and now stands strong” and that both Donalds “epitomise the famous “Fight! Fight! Fight! Spirit”.

Doug Wilson, CEO of the gift company Highland Titles, said last month that Donald the cow had some problems in the summer of 2024 and had to show “tremendous fighting spirit” to overcome them.

He added: “Like President Trump, he now stands strong and triumphant.”

For £25 those who “adopt” Donald, will get a gold foiled adoption certificate, monthly updates on the cow’s life at the nature reserve and a QR code which when scanned “Donald” will appear and deliver a “heart-felt message of thanks” by an impersonator of the U.S. President.

Listed among the reasons why you should adopt Donald, the highland cow, the website stated that he will “prevent dominant plant species from taking over the land” and that it is a “fun gift that celebrates President Trump's Scottish roots”.

According to the Highland Titles website Donald the cow is currently living in an area of the nature reserve that has been named “A-moo-rica”.

Under the headline “do you find this offensive” Highland Titles said: “We understand that this fun gift might offend a particularly humourless section of society.

“If you have any complaints to make, please email Donald The Cow directly.

“His preferred pronouns are He/Him.”

The adopt Donald “gift” has been panned online as one person wrote on Reddit: “It’s a scam and they’re taking the money off the clowns that think it’s true.”

While another said: “I guess if you like fascist dictators, you should head over there and give them all of your money.”

A third added: “Worthless a***holes always seem to double down on their worthlessness.”

In 2022 Oscar nominee goody bags caused controversy as they contained the deeds to tiny plots of land in Scotland which were supplied by Highland Titles.

The firm's souvenir plots give owners personal rights over the land – as opposed to real ownership.

This means they have rights against the seller – Highland Titles, in this instance – but not against anyone else.

In practical terms, this would prevent the owner of the land from having it taken off them by the firm. But if the firm were to go into administration and its assets sold off, the owner would be unable to prevent this.

Scots law specifically prevents souvenir plots from being listed in the Land Register because it is thought this would take up too much of its time.
