Southwick House Gardens near Caulkerbush are opening on Sunday to raise funds for Loch Arthur under Scotland’s Gardens Scheme.
It is an ideal opportunity to support this worthwhile cause by taking a walk round the grounds of Southwick House while enjoying the results of various garden renovation projects over recent years.
The extensive gardens comprise three mains areas. The first is a traditional formal walled garden with potager and large glasshouse producing a range of fruit, vegetables and cutting flowers. Adjacent to this is a hedged formal garden with herbaceous, shrub and rose beds centred around a lily pond.
The roses are an abundance of colour at this time of year and are a notable feature. Beyond the formal gardens there is a large water garden with two connected ponds with trees, shrubs and lawns running alongside the Southwick Burn.
The gardens are open from 2pm to 5pm on Sunday, July 2. Admission is £5 (children free).
Teas will be available and there will be some plants for sale. Proceeds will go to Loch Arthur and Scotland’s Gardens Scheme charities.
