A Sefton shop selling rare whiskies wants to stay open and sell alcohol for longer.
The Dram gift shop on Botanic Road in Southport has applied to Sefton Council for a variation to its licence, which is due to be heard at a meeting of the council’s licensing committee next week.
According to a report produced ahead of the meeting, the Dram Shop, which has whiskies listed on its website with prices ranging up to £120 a bottle, has asked to be able to stay open an extra couple of hours on Wednesdays through to Saturdays.

Currently the shop, which has a tasting area inside, shuts at 7pm with whisky sales stopping at 6.30pm on those days. The licensee has requested the ability to stay open until 9pm and to sell whisky until 8.30pm.
Current opening hours on Monday, Tuesday and Sunday would remain unchanged if the proposals are accepted by Sefton Council.
The issue has been referred to committee following two representations received by local residents objecting over public nuisance concerns.
One of the objections stated there were concerns “excess noise” could impact on people living in a nearby cottage.
The objection added that they were concerned there could be a breach of tenancy agreement if the license was extended, stating “the permitted use is only on the basis of a ‘retail shop’ and NOT an onsite drinking establishment.”
The application will be considered at a meeting a Sefton Council’s licensing sub-committee due to be held at 11am on December 1 at Bootle Town Hall.
