Southport Air Show road closures confirmed

Southport Air Show will return this year after a two year hiatus.

The event, which is a mainstay in the summer calendar, will see the Red Arrows and a host of other aircraft take to the skies over Southport and will run from July 9 to the 10. Sefton Council has implemented a number of road closures to help ease congestion and these will be in place before and after the event.

We have put together a guide of all the disruptions so you don't get stuck in any traffic.

Marine Drive will be closed to through traffic between Fairway roundabout and the Marine Way roundabout and between Weld Road and Pleasureland roundabout from 7am to 7pm on across both days. To enable a free flow of traffic after the air show from all event car parks, a number of routes will be closed to prevent unnecessary congestion.

These will be in place from approximately 3pm on Saturday and Sunday the routes are as follows:

- Exit from Pleasureland car park - No right turns will be permitted

- Exit from Princes Park car park - No right turns will be permitted

- Coastal Road northbound at its junction with Shore Road, Ainsdale

- Marine Way bridge – no right turns will be permitted from the bridge

- Fairway, northbound, at its junction with Promenade

- Exit from Splashworld car park – no right turns onto Esplanade

- Exit from Dunes Leisure Centre car park – no right turns onto Victoria Way

Some roads will be subject to no waiting and no loading restrictions from 7am to 7pm on both Saturday and Sunday they are:

- Promenade - Fairway to Seabank - Both Sides

- Promenade - Victoria Street to Nevill Street- Landward side only

- The Esplanade - Kingsway to Victoria Way- Both sides
