Transportation officials in Southern California have announced the closure of several major highways and freeways due to wildfires raging through the region. The Palisades Fire, fueled by strong winds, has led to significant road closures affecting travel in Ventura and Los Angeles counties.
Caltrans District 7 issued a warning urging residents to limit non-essential travel and avoid the affected areas. The destructive Palisades Fire has resulted in the closure of sections of State Route 1, popularly known as the scenic Pacific Coast Highway.
Southbound Pacific Coast Highway is currently shut down at Cross Creek Road, while northbound Pacific Coast Highway is closed at McClure Tunnel. Additionally, westbound Interstate 10 near Lincoln Boulevard has been closed due to the fire. State Route 27 (Topanga Canyon Boulevard) is inaccessible between Pacific Coast Highway and Mulholland Drive.
Further north, the Hurst Fire has forced the closure of the northbound and southbound connectors to eastbound Interstate 5. Eastbound Interstate 210 at Interstate 5 and westbound I-210 near Roxford Street are also affected by the wildfires. The northbound I-5 truck lanes to I-210 and State Route 14 are currently inaccessible.
The closures are expected to remain in place until the fires are under control and the safety of motorists can be ensured. Authorities are advising residents to stay updated on road conditions and follow evacuation orders if necessary.
